Jaclyn

Founder & Literacy Specialist

Jaclyn is the founder of Wise Owl and a literacy specialist with over 16 years of experience in early childhood and elementary education. She is passionate about helping children build strong reading foundations through engaging, play-based, and research-backed instruction. Jaclyn has taught in New York City schools as both a classroom teacher and literacy specialist, and since 2020 has led preschool pods and small-group programs designed to support early learners in meaningful, literacy-rich environments. She has also developed curriculum and coached educators using best practices grounded in the science of reading. At Wise Owl, Jaclyn leads program development, oversees curriculum, and works closely with students and teachers to create a warm, nurturing space where children grow in confidence and develop a love of learning.Most importantly, she’s Logan’s mom — a role that continues to inspire her work every day.

Shelly

Speech Pathologist, MS, CF-SLP TSSLD
Early Childhood Literacy Tutor and Speech Teacher

 Shelly is an ASHA- and New York State–certified speech-language pathologist with a background in Hearing and Speech Sciences from the University of Maryland. She brings experience in literacy tutoring, language research, and enrichment programs. Shelly integrates speech and language strategies into her sessions to strengthen communication, reading, and literacy skills, and uses the Social Thinking® framework to support children with a range of social communication needs. Her approach helps children build meaningful, functional skills while growing in confidence.

Julia

Gen/Special Ed; M.S. in Literacy & TCD
Early, Elementary and Special Education Tutor

Julia is an educator with 18 years of experience in literacy and special education. She’s a reading specialist trained in Orton-Gillingham and has taught K-3. Julia also supports teachers as a literacy coach, focusing on inclusive and engaging literacy instruction.

Alyssa W.

Alyssa, MS, CF-SLP, TSSLD is a speech-language pathologist and early childhood literacy tutor who supports young children’s communication and learning. She holds a Master’s degree from NYU and dual Bachelor’s degrees from Boston University.Alyssa works in a New York City elementary school, using play-based, evidence-driven approaches to build language, early literacy, and communication skills. She is also trained in Social Thinking® and has experience in early intervention.At Wise Owl, Alyssa creates a warm, supportive environment where children build confidence and strong foundations for school readiness.

Maeve

Maeve is pursuing MA in Cognitive Science in Education with a concentration on Intelligent Technologies from Teachers College, Columbia and uses her understanding of the science of learning to craft engaging and effective lessons and activities. She has experience with ages K-5 and is passionate about incorporating academic research findings into curriculum development in order to best support student learning outcomes.Maeve believes in promoting connection, curiosity, and confidence in each learning experience!

Kate

Gen/Special Ed; M.S.
Elementary Education Tutor

Kate is a passionate and experienced educator with a background in Elementary Education from James Madison University. She began her teaching career in Thailand before moving to Brooklyn, where she spent seven years teaching first and second grade at a public school and mentoring teachers in the CAMBA after-school program. Currently in her fifth year teaching fourth grade at a Brooklyn charter school, Kate enjoys supporting young readers through book clubs and personalized recommendations. She values student connection, inclusive teaching, and adapting curriculum to meet diverse learning needs. Outside the classroom, she enjoys reading, traveling, museums, and exploring Prospect Park.

Nora

Nora is an experienced and passionate educator with nearly 20 years in elementary education, working with children from preschool through fifth grade. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Childhood and Special Education from NYU and a Master’s in Psychological Counseling from Columbia University’s Teachers College, with a focus on school counseling. For the past 15 years, Nora has taught in top independent schools, serving as both a classroom teacher and math specialist. Her work includes curriculum development, targeted academic support, parent education, and coaching fellow teachers in best practices—especially in early childhood and elementary math. At Wise Owl, Nora creates a warm, hands-on learning environment where children feel safe, confident, and inspired to explore. She is deeply committed to fostering not only academic growth, but also independence, resilience, and a genuine love of learning.

Randi M.

Randi is an experienced, tenured elementary educator with a strong background in supporting students across a wide range of learning needs. She holds a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from New York University.Randi has spent many years teaching in public schools and tutoring students in both private and small-group settings. Her work focuses on helping children build confidence and master academic skills through personalized, engaging instruction tailored to each child’s learning style. At Wise Owl, Randi brings her thoughtful, patient approach to both tutoring and classroom support, creating a nurturing environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and growing as learners.
